Dave Von Ribbeck
LTA Level 4
Winner of LTA Kent Coach of the Year (Awarded in 2018)
I grew up in Swaziland where I was introduced to tennis from a young age, and fell in love with the game from the very beginning.
As a child I was always around teaching and children’s development. My mother ran a Montessori School from our home, and it was then I realised my connection with children and my passion to teach.
I decided to take up coaching professionally, and after studying Sports Coaching I moved to Canterbury in 2005 where I began my tennis coaching career at the Appeti Tennis Centre. My role was to manage the talent ID program which involved the training and development of the junior players.
I moved to become Head Coach at Brenchley & Matfield LTC in 2009 where I am happy to have built a thriving club, and a strong team, over the years. In 2015 I started Evolution Tennis, and my team and I now provide coaching for three strong local clubs; Tonbridge Tennis Club, Brenchley & Matfield Tennis Club and Marden Tennis Club, and many local prep and primary schools. This year (2019) we are thrilled Brenchley & Matfield was awarded LTA 1-4 court club of the year.
LTA Level 3
I have been a member of Brenchley & Matfield LTC since I was 11, when I began being coached by Dave.
I have a great love for the sport and so began coaching. I have been constantly inspired by those I have met.
The commitment and enthusiasm people show for the game, and the club, has motivated me to become a better tennis coach and get more involved with the friendly atmosphere – in my opinion, it’s the best place to work.
And what takes place on the court is even better… to me there is nothing more satisfying than seeing one of my students progressing, learning something new and wanting to learn more.
I particularly enjoy teaching tennis to children because not only do I have fun entertaining and coaching them, but very often they entertain me!

Sonya started playing tennis when she was six years old, and went on to represent Romania as a junior professional player. She played in France and Italy alongside Simona Halep (ranked world No.1 in singles by Women’s Tennis Association during period 2017-2019), where they won many national U16 competitions together. Sonya’s best ranking of her career was #2. At 16 years old Sonya had to retire professionally to focus on college and University, however keen to continue with the sport she is so passionate about, Sonya moved into coaching in 2014, and has since worked with all ages of players in London and Kent. Sonya continues to play competitively at county level. Sonya has a fabulous energy and experience on court which comes through in her teaching, and we feel sure you will learn a great deal and enjoy her focused & attentive coaching technique.
