Dave Von Ribbeck
Winner of LTA Kent Coach of the Year Awarded in 2018 LTA Level 4
I grew up in Swaziland where I was introduced to tennis from a young age, and fell in love with the game from the very beginning.
As a child I was always around teaching and children’s development. My mother ran a Montessori School from our home, and it was then I realised my connection with children and my passion to teach.
I decided to take up coaching professionally, and after studying Sports Coaching I moved to Canterbury in 2005 where I began my tennis coaching career at the Appeti Tennis Centre. My role was to manage the talent ID program which involved the training and development of the junior players.
I moved to become Head Coach at Brenchley & Matfield LTC in 2009 where I am happy to have built a thriving club, and a strong team, over the years. In 2015 I started Evolution Tennis, and my team and I now provide coaching for four strong local clubs; Tonbridge Tennis Club, Brenchley & Matfield Tennis Club, Marden Tennis Club and Paddock Wood Community Tennis Club, and many local prep and primary schools.
I was thrilled to be awarded LTA Kent Coach of the Year this year (2018) and look forward to continuing to build our club memberships, and bring coaching to all.
LTA Level 3
Ever since I was young I’ve taken an interest in, and played, tennis. Having a natural rapport with children I gratefully took up the opportunity to volunteer coaching at my local tennis club when given the opportunity in 2009. It was at this point that my love for coaching combined with tennis and I decided to focus my career aspirations to base around the coaching sector.
I completed my studies at Northumbria University for a BSc in Sports Coaching where I achieved a 2:1 overall. Throughout my time there I have learnt key skills which I have put into practice in my coaching.
I completed my level 1 and level 2 at a young age and have been coaching ever since. I have coached tennis at over 10 different locations both in schools and at local club, with adults as well as children. I have also worked at Wimbledon throughout the yearly Championships, as well as during the Olympics and Paralympics on a voluntary basis at the Play Tennis Zone to help children get involved in the sport.
Having played sports from a very young age and throughout my life, I try to ensure that all my tennis coaching sessions are enjoyable for all my pupils and I draw on my previous experiences of what I liked and disliked to improve future sessions.
LTA Level 3
I have been a member of Brenchley & Matfield LTC since I was 11, when I began being coached by Dave.
I have a great love for the sport and so began coaching. I have been constantly inspired by those I have met.
The commitment and enthusiasm people show for the game, and the club, has motivated me to become a better tennis coach and get more involved with the friendly atmosphere – in my opinion, it’s the best place to work.
And what takes place on the court is even better… to me there is nothing more satisfying than seeing one of my students progressing, learning something new and wanting to learn more.
I particularly enjoy teaching tennis to children because not only do I have fun entertaining and coaching them, but very often they entertain me!
LTA Level 3
I first picked up a racquet at the age of 4 and started competing extensively at the age of 9. Through my passion for tennis I began coaching when I was 16, and went on to study Sports Development & Performance at Brighton University.
After universtity I took a full time coaching position at Knoll Tennis Club in Orpington for 7 years, where I was fortunate to coach a variety of levels and squads. In 2018 I decided it was time to return a little closer to home, and and joined the Evolution Team coaching predominanty at Tonbridge Tennis Club.
